Right in protection from the law. Rights in a fair trial.<\/span><\/h2>\n
In case your rights have been violated and you want to claim them or you are accused for a crime, the Greek Courts are responsible to judge and decide on the case. Every person has the right to be judged in a fair manner. The trial must be public and follow all procedures according to the law; the court has to remain independent. This means that all members of the court are independent and unbiased, without relations with the government, political parties, the police or the military. The court must explain the reason for its decision on a reasonable time.<\/div>\n

Why is it useful in your everyday life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are accused of a crime, you will be judged following a fair, unbiased and effective procedure. In Greece, every person is innocent unless their guilt is proven in court.
\nIn case you are arrested you must call for a lawyer. As a detainee, you have rights and you must be informed from a lawyer immediately. Your lawyer will tell you which are the next steps, and what you can or cannot do based on the charges.
\nOften, many people are afraid to go to court and claim their rights, believing that they will not be heard or find justice. Migrants and refugees are afraid that something like that might have consequences on their process to obtain valid legal documents. <\/p>\n
